🦵 ACL Injury: What Actually Happens Inside Your Knee?

The ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) is one of the key stabilizing ligaments of the knee. A sudden twist, awkward landing, jump, fall, or sports injury can partially or completely tear it.

When the ACL is injured, you may experience:

🔹 A sudden “pop” in the knee
🔹 Swelling within a few hours
🔹 Knee pain and restricted movement
🔹 A feeling that the knee is giving way
🔹 Difficulty with running, turning or pivoting
🔹 Possible associated meniscus or cartilage injury

⚠️ Not every ACL tear automatically requires surgery. Treatment depends on the extent of injury, knee stability, activity level, associated injuries and individual goals. A proper orthopedic evaluation and appropriate imaging can help determine the right treatment plan.

If your knee feels unstable after an injury, don’t ignore it.
